Who pays Party Wall fees?

In most cases, the building owner initiating the construction work is responsible for covering the Party Wall Surveyor’s fees. This includes the cost of preparing and serving Party Wall Notices, conducting a schedule of condition, and creating the Party Wall Award. If both parties (the building owner and the adjoining owner) each appoint their own surveyor, the building owner typically covers the costs for both.

However, if the adjoining owner requests additional work or modifications, they may need to contribute to the fees. In some situations, both parties might share the costs, especially if the work benefits both properties.

It’s important to clarify payment responsibilities early in the process to avoid disputes.
